PowerGEM Acquires Power Info, Strengthening Power System Modeling Capabilities

Acquisition of Power Info expands PowerGEM’s standards-based modeling expertise to help utilities and grid operators share, manage, maintain, and visualize digital representations of the power grid.

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y., August 19, 2026 – PowerGEM, LLC has acquired Power Info, LLC, a provider of software that delivers an accelerated, more reliable way for power system engineers to model the power grid, including the substations, transmission lines, and equipment that deliver electricity. The acquisition of Power Info further expands PowerGEM’s expertise across the energy ecosystem. As the grid grows in complexity, PowerGEM is building a trusted platform to help its customers make swift, more confident decisions on grid reliability and market economics.

Founded in 2007 and based in the Seattle area, Power Info specializes in standards-based technologies for modeling power grids. Its flagship solution, CIMSpy, automates the exchange, integration, validation, and management of power system models across the disparate systems, file formats, and data sources that make up a utility’s technology stack, while providing data-driven visualization that helps engineers better understand grid operations. CIMdesk is a version of CIMSpy customized to support the Common Grid Model Exchange Standard (CGMES) and associated model exchange practices for European transmission system operators.

“The power sector runs on models most people never see, and getting them right and keeping them current is one of the most demanding parts of running a modern grid,” said Joe DeMatteo, CEO of PowerGEM. “Power Info has spent nearly 20 years solving that problem for some of the most sophisticated operators in the industry. Bringing their expertise in-house lets us extend automation further upstream to the modeling work that feeds directly into the simulations our customers depend on every day.”

Power Info’s tools produce a structured, standards-compliant, and validated grid representation that can feed directly into PowerGEM’s simulation applications, which use that foundation to evaluate contingencies, forecast market outcomes, and plan resource adequacy. Pairing that model interoperability and management expertise with PowerGEM’s simulation engines is intended to give customers a more complete, more automated path from raw grid data to the operational and planning decisions built on top of it, along with improved data governance.

Power Info’s team, including founders Jun Zhu and Feng Tu, will join PowerGEM and continue to serve their existing customers while bringing CIMSpy’s modeling capabilities to PowerGEM’s broader customer base.

“Utilities and system operators manage increasingly complex grid information across multiple systems, applications, and formats that do not always interoperate seamlessly,” said Jun Zhu, Founder of Power Info. “We build tools to simplify that complexity by making grid models and data easier to exchange, manage, validate, and visualize across different systems and formats. We’re thrilled to join the PowerGEM team and excited to create a broader, more integrated industry offering by combining Power Info’s modeling expertise with PowerGEM’s advanced simulation capabilities.”

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
